Peaceful Body Peaceful Mind
How can Juneau Family Acupuncture help me?
People come to acupuncture for a variety of reasons. Many of our clients have sought relief from other modalities for their suffering and are dissatisfied with their care. Their symptoms are often seen as separate and unrelated or they are not heard or seen as a whole and unique individual. The care they get may be superficial, come with undesirable side effects, or even lead to further suffering as we see with the opioid addiction crises today.
At Juneau Family Acupuncture we give you another choice. We offer acupuncture to help ease suffering and help you find more peace in your body. Acupuncture is non-habit forming, opioid-free, and comes with rare and minimal side-effects. We see you as a whole and unique individual and tailor our care to your specific needs and concerns. We help you better understand how your symptoms relate to each other and to your quality of life.
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a treatment method to tend to your body, mind and spirit. Originating in China before written history, today acupuncture is practiced all over the world to help millions of people manage their symptoms and live with ease in their body. Slender, solid, flexible needles are placed into specific points in the body to promote relaxation, healing, and better movement.
What are acupuncture needles?
We use single-use, sterile needles that are designed to be placed in the body as gently as possible. Clients feel very little to nothing at all when a needle is inserted. Once the point is reached, the most common being a dull ache or a small electric zing. These sensations are very different from the pain usually associated with hypodermic, hollow, inflexible, large-gauge needles used by most western medical professionals.
How many treatments will I need?
At the beginning, weekly or bi weekly treatment produces the clearest results. We tailor your treatment plan, including frequency, to meet your specific needs. Often patients start spacing their treatments further apart (every 2-6 weeks) after six weeks of weekly care.
Often we are asked, once my symptoms improve will I need acupuncture to keep me feeling well? Our intention with every treatment is to help you understand how your symptoms come and go, and what your symptoms teach you about living wisely. After the initial relief, we focus on building wise living skills to help keep you in charge of your wellbeing.
What symptoms do you treat?
Acupuncture provides strategies to tend practically any symptom you may have. Our clients have found relief from the following conditions:
Depression and emotional trauma
Low Back pain (muscular/nerve related)
Neck, TMJ pain
Hip, wrist, shoulder, foot, knee, and joint pain
Common cold and flu like symptoms
Migraines, headaches, and sinus pain
Most especially and common throughout all my patients -- stress!
What are the side effects?
Our practitioners are trained extensively in needling technique with strong emphasis on avoiding sensitive structures and dangerous needling depths. The most common side effects are occasional soreness or bruising at the insertion site, but this is rare. Even more rare are major medical side effects such as a pneumothorax from improper needle technique of poorly trained non-acupuncturists.
